The Reggio Approach

Through my work with UNR’s Early Head Start program, I have been inspired by this Italian approach to education for young children.

Emergent Curriculum:
• Plans are based off of the children’s interests.
• Activities are flexible and allowed to emerge into new and wonderful adventures even if it veers away from the original goal.

The View of the Child:
• Children are viewed as capable and as willing learners.
• Children are encouraged individually and not limited by standards.

The Role of a Teacher:
• Teachers are looked at like scientists and researchers.
• Teachers provide intriguing environments and provoking activities to encourage children to take their interests to a new level.
